what is it with american productions that they had to have the dreadful naff music in the background?!!! can’t the american viewers get excited without it?! thank goodness for the uk’s channel four version – minus cheesy chat and tunes!!

@nightowl8936 Excellent to see a bigwig has the money, believe me I would but I just had a kid and that’s my priority. Peace and bike forever!

@mattsnow81

I’m gonna lead by example and talk to socalrider909 and buy several races I remember from 20+ years ago. Like Paris-Roubaix, and this Tour, and the 1988 and 1989 Tour, and the 1987 and 1989 Ironman, if he has them.

Fantastic memories here. I used to watch this on CBS, who at the time had awesome coverage of the Tour and Paris-Roubaix. Music is John Tesh’s, who also narrates the race along with the incredible Phil Ligget. Want to get my hands on DVD’s of this if surpass definition…thanks for posting.

“Hinault the worlds largest back stabber. … Hinault promises to return the favor … only to break away when LeMond is struggling … how French!”

This is frightening naiveté.

Greg is naive still, and so are his fans. When I heard the intelligence, I was empathetic, but the reality is that Greg’s expectations are the source of the problems that Greg has with this world in general, and ever cyclist who proves to be stronger than he was.

zanderbear says:

“Hinault the worlds largest back stabber. … Hinault promises to return the favor … only to break away when LeMond is struggling … how French!”

I have to agree with this. Hinault may have meant what he said when he said the promise, initially. With all, he KNEW he would have lost the jersey had LeMond not held back.

But maybe the next year, with having gone down in history with 5 wins, he dared to dream of being singular in history with a 6th, forgetting about LeMond.

I mean Col de la Colombiere where Frank Schleck won.

jushyosaha604 September 14, 2010 at 12:25 am

WishWereBackInThe80s September 14, 2010 at 3:01 am

LeMond will FOREVER be THE GREATEST American cyclist (with Hampsten following)! LeMond raced to win! and NOT just the Tour de France! Velodrome, one-days, and grand tours! THAT is the stuff REAL cyclists are made of!

S2Sturges September 14, 2010 at 3:09 am

I’d over and done just how cheesy those 80′s synth soundtracks sounded, I know John Tesh did all that. But still was possibly the best Tour in recent memory, I met l LeMond a few years ago and he said it was a toss up which was more satisfying, that Tour or the World’s win. Hell of a nice guy.

ISUZU1975 September 14, 2010 at 3:37 am

It’s the dream video by Amstrong, I see Hinault and it’s seems like Contador ja,ja,ja terrible luck Lance.-

lurvebutter September 14, 2010 at 4:03 am

Like that pat on the back from LeMond at 7:30. And looks how fresh they look!

goyherder September 14, 2010 at 4:41 am

Apart from for john tesh, the only bicycle that guy has ridden is one without the seat.

TheRhonddalad September 14, 2010 at 5:04 am

If you’re used to 4,000 calorie breakfasts, I suppose it’s a hard habit to break when you no longer ride hundreds of kikometres every day!

JamFra67 September 14, 2010 at 5:42 am

the badgers aggression is surely missed. He made things happen and that was exciting

joeenglert September 14, 2010 at 6:02 am
